10 Reasons to Start Tai Chi
Thinking of picking up a new movement practice!?
Tai Chi is simple to start but deep enough to keep you learning for life!
Here’s why Tai Chi might be the one for you!
1. You Can Do It Anywhere
In the park, on the beach, in line at the shop, even standing on a train.
Standing still counts as Tai Chi if you’re sinking into the ground. Once you know the basics, every place becomes your practice space!
2. Difficulty Is Adjustable and Joint Friendly
It can complement your main training or stand alone as your daily workout. If it’s your main, every day is leg day!
The best part is you can keep it up for decades without wrecking your body.
3. Posture + Clarity
Tai Chi fixes your back from years of sitting hunched, teaches you to move effortlessly, and clears a busy head.
It’s moving meditation, stress relief, and long term maintenance for your body all in one!
4. The People in Tai Chi Class Are Super Chill
Since you can do it at all ages, the ones who stick around are good to be around.
You don’t often find a class where a 20 something year old (me lol) and a 70 something year old are side by side, both sweating and smiling.
5. It Is Martial Arts*
Miss those karate lessons growing up? This is the all ages martial arts class! The movements are slow but the roots are combat focused.
*Disclaimer: proficiency takes years and depends on the teacher.
6. You Move Better in Everything Else
Tai Chi trains hips, rhythm, and flow. It makes you smoother in sports and better at dancing! The hips don’t lie in Tai Chi either!
7. You’ll Start Believing in Energy (Chi)
Not just “I’m high/low energy” but actual energy you can feel. Try a year of Tai Chi and tell me chi isn’t real. You can’t. Take that sceptics!
When you start cultivating, you can start chi blasting your enemies!
8. Animal Lovers Rejoice!
Practise enough Tai Chi and animals come closer to you!
Dogs, cats, even birds seem calmer around you. Something about the relaxed energy makes you more approachable.
9. Grandpa/Ma Mode
If you’re young, you can larp as a grandpa/ma in the park. If you’re already grandpa/ma, Tai Chi gives you the spring of youth.
Either way, you end up with an energy level that surprises people!
Tai Chi is fountain of youth confirmed??
10. Invisible Personal Space Powers
Someone standing too close on public transport? You can force push them away with intention alone. They’ll move without knowing why.
Tai Chi principles you learn in class give you invisible personal space powers!
Final Thoughts
There are other perks ofc but I’ll let you discover them yourself.
Tai Chi is one of those things that only makes sense once you do it!
Hope you have fun practising!
